[NEWS] - EU on imported food regulations revision

In April 2022, according to the Vietnam Trade Office in Sweden, the EU issued amendments to some regulations on imported food in order to control and tighten standards from imported sources.
Specifically, on 7 April, the European Commission issued Regulation No (EU) 2022/566 amending annex II to Regulation (EC) No 396/2005 regarding maximum residue levels for flutianil in or on certain products such as fresh and frozen fruit, nuts; fresh and frozen vegetables; oils and oily fruits; tea, coffee, herbs and cocoa; kinds of spice; products of animal origin.
On 12 April, the EU issued Regulation No (EU) 2022/617 amending Regulation (EC) No 1881/2006 on maximum mercury levels in fish and salt. Accordingly, the mercury content in fish ranges from 0.3 to 1.0 depending on the type of fish and the mercury content in salt is at 0.10.
On 13 April, the European Commission issued Regulation (EU) 2022/634 amending Regulation (EU) 37/2010 concerning the classification of bambermycin and its maximum residue limits in foods with animal origin.
On 20 April, the European Commission issued Regulation No (EU) 2022/650 amending the Annex to Regulation (EU) 231/2012 providing technical specifications for additives. foods are listed in Annexes II and III of Regulation (EC) No 1333/2008 concerning specifications for sodium diacetate (E262).
These are the regulations that businesses exporting food to the EU need to grasp to ensure the maintenance of their business performance, because the EU is a very important market for Vietnam’s agricultural and aquatic products.

According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, thanks to making good use of incentives from the EVFTA Agreement, agricultural exports to the EU in 2021 have grown well. In which, the export of main agricultural products to the EU reached a turnover of about 2.45 billion USD; turnover of forestry and fishery products reached more than 2 billion USD. Of the total export turnover of main agricultural products to the EU, coffee accounts for 42.2%, cashew nuts: 33%, rubber: 7.9%, vegetables: 7.8%; pepper: 7.4%; rice: 1.7%....
With this result, the EU is one of the largest export markets for agricultural products in our country, accounting for 13.7% of the total export turnover of main agricultural products.
