According to our sources, the State Bank (SBV) has just granted the first credit growth limit (credit room) in 2023 to a number of banks.

Which, MSB is granted the highest credit room, at 13.5%. This is also the only bank giving credit growth higher than 2022 (9.5%).

The remaining banks are allotted a lower initial credit growth limit.

Specifically, HDBank is granted a room of 11%, compared to 15% in 2022. ACB is 9.8% compared to 10% in 2022; VIB is 9.5% compared to 2022 10%; TPBank is 9.1% lower than 11.5% of the previous year; VPBank and MB were both granted credit room at 9% while the previous year was 15%.

The State Bank said that this agency will regularly monitor and supervise the implementation of credit growth targets of each credit institution; based on the macroeconomic situation, market developments, and the credit institution’s request, the State Bank will review to consider and adjust the credit growth target for the credit institution by the operating orientation of the Government, the Prime Minister and the direction of the State Bank in Directive 01.

The State Bank has applied the credit ceiling control mechanism for commercial banks since 2011. Every year, the SBV usually considers granting the first credit limit based on the growth orientation to banks in the first quarter based on the growth orientation. , and then make adjustments to match operational goals.

In 2022, the SBV also granted an initial credit room for banks in the first quarter and had 3 times of extending credit growth limits for banks in the last months of the year.

In 2023, the State Bank said, the credit growth orientation will be around 14-15%, with adjustments in line with actual developments and situations. This target is slightly better than the initial orientation of 2022 (14%). Even if conditions are favorable, the credit limit will be adjusted more.

With the credit scale of the whole economy at the end of 2022 estimated at more than 11.9 million billion VND, the amount of credit that banks can lend more in 2023 will be about 1.67 - 1.79 million billion VND. copper.

Previously, in Directive 01, the SBV said that it would notify and periodically review and adjust credit growth targets for each bank based on its operation situation, financial capacity, and ability. healthy credit growth; which is based on some basic criteria such as credit institution ratings, credit concentration, interest rates, participation in supporting the handling of weak credit institutions, actual market situation, etc.

Simultaneously, the SBV will also direct credit institutions to increase credit throughout the year at a reasonable rate, directing credit to production and business fields, priority fields, and economic growth drivers according to the principles of economic development.
